The USDA's August crop production estimates place Illinois' production at one billion, 940 million bushels. That would be seven percent more than the record one billion, 812 million bushels harvested last year.
The USDA projects the 2004 crop to yield 168 bushels per acre statewide, which would be four bushels better than last year. The estimates are based on crop conditions as of August 1.
Nationwide, the USDA projects a harvest of 10.9 billion bushels of corn, eight percent more than last year.
