National Weather Service meteorologists say record lows have been recorded throughout both states this week, especially in northeastern Illinois. Lows in the forties early Thursday morning in central Illinois broke records, some stretching as far back as 1893.
Meteorologists say the culprit is a jet stream that's pulling air down to Illinois from Canada. They said they expect temperatures to climb back into the low 80s early next week.
