Administrator Wants to Draw Students From California

Senior vice president David Olien says targeted students could get tuition discounts. He says it wouldn't squeeze qualified Wisconsinites out of the UW System.

Olien says talented young people would be lured to the state with the hope they'll stay after graduation. He says it would also improve the state's ethnic diversity since population growth in California has been largely among minorities.

Olien has floated the idea among members of the Midwestern Higher Education Compact.
