Local leaders says it's pre-kindergarten programs like the one at Circles for Life in Rockford that are preparing youngsters for successful school years.
Wednesday law enforcement leaders released a national poll that proves this notion.
The poll of 800 kindergarten teachers found that in at least half the classrooms across the country, one out of five kids were inadequately prepared when they started school last year.
The poll also says that when teachers have to deal with disruptive behavior from poorly prepared students, it negatively impacts well-prepared kids.
Local leaders say this research should be taken to heart when it comes to the future of our children.
"This research from my experience and now this poll says the same thing," said Winnebago County State's Attorney Paul Logli. "Quality pre-kindergarten is one of the best investments we can make to help a child succeed in school with a crime free life."
