ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Governor Pat Quinn has announced more than $9.2 million in capital investments for construction projects in northern Illinois. The upgrades are meant to help create jobs and boost Illinois' economy.
The projects will be administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
U.S. Business Route 20 from Bonus Avenue to Lawrenceville Road in Belvidere will be widened and resurfaced for $3,223,954 by William Charles Construction Company, LLC of Loves Park, the lowest of two bidders.
A bridge will be replaced on Centerville Road over Beaver Creek about two miles west of Capron by Civil Constructors, Inc. of Freeport, whose bid of $571,151 was the lowest of five submitted.
The concrete deck of a bridge carrying Illinois Route 78 over a tributary of the east fork of Plum River four miles north of Mt. Carroll will be replaced. The lowest of three bids submitted was by Civil Constructors, Inc. of Freeport, $358,754.
A bridge one-half mile west of Elizabeth over the Apple River will be rehabilitated for $715,000 by Brandt Construction Co. of Milan, the lowest of four bidders.
A set of existing steps on the grounds of the Ulysses S. Grant Home State Historic Site in Galena will be removed and a retaining wall installed for $77,172 by Louie’s Trenching Service, Inc. of Galena, the lowest of three bidders.
Two bridges carrying I-39 over Perry Road will be cleaned and painted for $341,000 by Eagle Painting & Maintenance Co., Inc. of Lansing.
A bridge carrying Tampico Road over a branch of the Green River about 6.5 miles southwest of Harmon will be replaced for $209,976 by Curnyn Construction Co. of Geneseo, the lowest of six bidders.
Milling and resurfacing will be done on portions of Illinois Route 251 from U.S. Route 30 to Chicago Road for $87,332 by William Charles Construction Company, LLC of Loves Park, the lowest of five bidders.
Two bridges carrying Interstate 39 over Interstate 88 will be painted for $794,051 by Eagle Painting & Maintenance Co., Inc. of Lansing.
Work on Veterans Parkway from Illinois Route 251 to South Main Street in Rochelle will be completed, including repaving, shoulder work, curb and gutter, and other associated work. William Charles Construction Company, LLC of Loves Park was the lowest of two bidders at $461,986.
A light tower at the I-39 northbound ramp to I-88 westbound near Rochelle will be replaced for $49,515 by William Charles Electric, LLC of Loves Park, the lowest of two bidders.
A bridge carrying U.S. Route 20 eastbound over the Pecatonica River northeast of Freeport will be repaired by Civil Constructors, Inc. of Freeport, whose bid of $1,880,645 was the lowest of two submitted.
A bridge carrying Dameier Road over a branch of Yellow Creek two miles south of Lena will be replaced for $276,884 by Curnyn Construction Co. of Geneseo, the lowest of four bidders. Another bridge carrying Rees Road over the same creek about 1.5 miles south of Lena will also be replaced by Curnyn for $232,551.
The Village of Machesney Park will receive new sidewalks and a solar powered pedestrian crossing signal system along Ralston Road from Bluebonnet Drive to Hollybrook Drive, and Loves Park will receive the same items along Windsor Road in front of Harlem Middle School. The lowest of six bidders for the project was Norwest Construction, Inc. of South Beloit with a quote of $205,754.
