Red Cross Flood Updates

Rockford, IL, August 15, 2007 – The American Red Cross is responding to the immediate emergency needs of those affected by flooding in Rockford, Ill and surrounding counties.

A service center remains open at the Forest City Fellowship (the former Hallstrom School), 1300 17th St, Rockford. Service center hours are as follows:

Wednesday ………………………………………………….. 9 a.m.-7 p.m.

Thursday …………………………………………………….. 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Friday ………………………………………………………… 9 a.m.- 7 p.m.

Saturday ……………………………………………………….9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Those coming to the service center are reminded to bring photo identification (such as a driver’s license) and proof of address in the affected area (such as a utility bill).

ADDITIONAL UPDATES

The Red Cross is working in partnership with the Salvation Army to serve nearly 17,500 meals and snacks to date. The Red Cross’ mobile kitchen, “Henry’s Kitchen” is preparing meals for mobile feeding in the affected area. Please note that food will NOT be served at the “Henry’s Kitchen” site.

Nearly 1,000 area residents have received some form of Red Cross assistance – sheltering, financial or other services.

Nearly 750 clean-up kits and comfort kits have been distributed by the Red Cross.

· The Red Cross has made 150 mental health contacts to those impacted.

· The Red Cross has more than 200 volunteers from local and regional chapters

encompassing 5 states assisting individuals and families rebuild their lives after disaster.

Any families with emergency needs caused by the recent flooding can contact the Rock River Chapter at 815/963-8471.
