CHICAGO (AP) -- The state treasurer's office will begin its first online auction of unclaimed property such as jewelry, watches, stamps and even baseball cards on eBay next week.
The items being auctioned next Monday have been unclaimed for at least five years. They come from sources including safe deposit boxes. The state says in many cases, the owners don't know the property exists.
The state holds proceeds from the auction for the rightful owners or heirs.
The office of state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias (jeh-NOO'-lee-ehs) says the items can be previewed online or at the state fair.
