Man Found Guilty in Murder of Loves Park Man

Twenty-six-year-old Markus Buchanan refused to come to the courtroom to hear the verdict.

He was convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Christopher Houston. The Loves Park man's body was found in a burning vehicle in December of 2002 near Rockton.

Buchanan faces a maximum 50 years in prison when he's sentenced September 27.

Authorities called Buchanan the ringleader in the crime. An accomplice, Jessica Lighthart, confessed in June. She faces a maximum of 35 years in prison at her sentencing hearing next week.
