DEKALB, Ill. (AP) -- The DeKalb city manager says a local Napa Auto Parts store was hosting the community event where a monster truck crashed into a crowd and injured at least a dozen people today.
Mark Biernacki says the monster truck was rolling over a set of demolished cars at a demonstration when the accident happened at about 2 p.m.
Hospital officials say nine people -- including a mother with four children -- were taken to the Kishwaukee Community Hospital by ambulance. All were in fair condition.
Three people refused medical treatment.
A spokesman from Napa Auto Parts has declined to comment today.
A hospital supervisor says most the injuries were likely from the "chaos" of the accident and not the truck itself.
Train traffic through the northern Illinois town was halted but has been restored.
