He's the newest star in the Democratic Party. He'll be the keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention in Boston Tuesday, and as a black candidate with a strong following among white voters, he's become a symbol of the political coalition Democrats dream of building.

Obama grew up in Hawaii and he says he knows something about waves, like the swell of attention he's enjoying now. He says you ride a wave when you're on it but it's hard to tell how long it will last.

Obama spoke to 23 News via satellite Monday and his comments can be heard on 23 News at 5 and 6.
