The Greater Rockford Airport may soon see the liftoff of passenger service now that the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill supporting expansion of commercial service here.
The House says expanding passenger service at Rockford will reduce delays at O'Hare by 79 percent and save airlines nearly $370 million from reduced delays and passengers could also save some $380 million.
Lawmakers say this legislation proves the Greater Rockford Airport has a significant role to play in the nation's air travel.
Before this can happen, however, the legislation must pass the Senate. Illinois Senator Dick Durbin says the bill should pass with no problem.
