The number of human cases of West Nile virus illness in Illinois now stands at 79.
The Department of Public Health Wednesday reported eight new cases of the illness. The new cases include four from Cook County and one each from Chicago, DuPage, LaSalle and St. Clair counties.
A 71-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman from southern Cook County and a 34-year-old woman from northern Cook County are hospitalized with West Nile Encephalitis.
A 69-year-old man from LaSalle County, and an 84-year-old woman in DuPage County also are hospitalized with Encephalitis. Their conditions are not known.
