The president begins his trip Tuesday with campaign rallies in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and the St. Louis suburb of St. Charles, Missouri.
Polls show a close race in both states. Four years ago, Bush won Missouri by a narrow margin, and lost Iowa by just 4,000 votes.
Then on Thursday, Bush is scheduled to speak about Homeland Security during a stop in the Chicago suburb of Glenview.
He'll follow that with a GOP fundraiser in nearby Winnetka before heading to Texas to spend the weekend at his Texas ranch.
