Fitzgerald Says Lack of Candidate is 'Sad Comment' on Illinois GOP

Fitzgerald is retiring from the U.S. Senate, and Thursday state Senator Kirk Dillard became the latest Republican to take a pass on running in the November election to replace him.

Fitzgerald Thursday said, "It appears that just about everyone who is sane has taken themselves out of the running."

And Fitzgerald says that's "a sad comment on the Illinois Republican Party."

The state GOP was left without a candidate when Jack Ryan pulled out almost four weeks ago after the release of embarrassing sexual allegations in court documents related to his divorce.
