Rockford Police are investigating the death of an 11-month-old boy.
Police were called to an apartment building in the 1600 block of Overdean around 7:30 this morning. They say they found the infant dead with burns on his body. According to the Winnebago County Coroner determining the cause of death will take weeks. Neighbors are shocked by the incident.
"I happen to glance out the window i see the lady from across the way was over here on her knees, I didn't realize what was going on, I seen the paramedics helping her up I thought something was wrong with her until she stood up, I noticed a child was at her feet. Then i realized the child was dead" said Eric Mason and next door neighbor.
We're told the infant's mother has two other children under five and no prior record. Right now police do not suspect foul play.
