A man convicted in a 1981 murder will serve 35 years behind bars.
51 year old Epimenio Melecio was brought back to rockford earlier this month nearly 30 years after he fled before his trial for the murder of 24-year-old Javier Delgado. A judge denied a continuance request from Melecio's attorneys today instead granted a motion by prosecutors to go forward with the sentencing process. Authorities were tipped off Melencio's whereabouts when he gave fingerprints while applying for a work visa.
