A celebration is planned at the Freeport Armory to greet members of the 333rd Military Police unit. They've already returned to the U.S. and have been at Fort McCoy in Wisconsin, undergoing physicals and briefings.
Freeport is dotted with signs that read "Welcome home 333rd. We are proud of you." And residents have tied yellow ribbons on trees and signposts.
The unit's most high-profile assignment was policing the notorious Abu Ghraib prison, which was at the center of an Iraqi prisoner abuse scandal involving U.S. soldiers.
The abuse occurred months before the 333rd arrived.
