Medical School Expansion

The University of Illinois board of trustees approved funding for the project earlier today, the plan calls for a 32 million dollar, 55 thousand square foot expansion at the College of Medicine in Rockford.

The expansion will add a pharmacy school as well as broaden the school's national center for rural health professions.

The College of Medicines Dean Doctor Martin Lipsky says the expansion will bring huge gains to our area, construction on the addition will start next Fall.

Leaders hope to have the center up and running by 2010. However part of the funding for the project is also tied up in the capital plan of the state budget.
