A proposal under consideration in Winnebago County would open forest preserve land for recreational hunting.
Supporters of the idea say it would cull deer at little or no cost to the county. They envision bow hunters participating in a lottery to win access on a limited number of days.
The county's forest preserve executive committee is expected to consider the proposal Thursday, but the committee's chairman, Winnebago County Board member
Gary Jury said he doesn't think the proposal will pass.
Instead, Jury said he hopes board members will discuss a deer management plan for the county preserves, which experts say are overpopulated.
