"They have perseverance; hard work. They have a moral code. They serve the community. They serve one another. And there's no free Eagle Scout badges out there. They all had to work very, very hard to get it," says Tom Brooks.
The Blackhawk Area Council saluted the new Eagle Scouts at the Radisson during their annual scout recognition dinner. Among those honored is Josh Broze, who received the "Outstanding Eagle Project" award. He planned and supervised construction of this memorial garden in Belvidere and says he was surprised to learn he'd won the award.
"My parents actually tried to hide it from me, and then they were like, 'oh, we'll tell him so he knows.' I was kind of excited because I worked really hard on my project, just like everybody else who got their Eagle," says Broze.
This year marks the 100th anniversary for Boy Scouts of America.
