Since the state hasn't been paying municipalities Stephenson County leaders are preparing to borrow money from the bank.

The board authorized its treasurer to take out a $400,000 loan to help maintain cash flow until real-estate tax revenues come in. Four months of non-payments by the state put the county in this situation and if Governor Quinn gets his way, and 300-million dollars are cut from the state's local government budget, county leaders say they'll go into even further debt.

"The mention of withholding income tax revenue from the various local governments is really a.... just, another hammer. And I don't mean a nail in the coffin, I mean a hammer that's pounding the nails in," said Stephenson County Board Chairman John Blum.

I would like to thank WIFR for keeping the citizens of Freeport and Stephenson County informed as to what goes on at our county board meetings. Our local newspaper, The Freeport Journal Standard, on many occassions fails to completely inform the citizens as to what goes on as it is in this case. In this mornings issue, the Freeport Journal Standard only reported about the rift that occured at last nights county board meeting between County Board Vice Chairman Jim Graham, and County Board member George Kinney. Mr. Graham is accusing Mr. Kinney of allowing a "Lynch Mob" mentality to dominate Mr. Kinney's town hall meetings, when in fact Mr. Kinney keeps the citizens of Freeport and Stephenson county informed as to what is going on, and how our tax money is being spent. On many occassions Mr. Kinney has taken Mr. Graham, and County Board Chairman John Blum to task as to how they are wasting tax payer dollars. I feel that this is something that WIFR may want to further investigate.
