Local Leaders React to Budget Speech
Local leaders are calling Quinn's plan devastating. The City of Rockford is already dealing with significantly less money because of the tough economy. And if the state budget gets approved, Rockford administrator Jim Ryan says the city would receive a 30-percent cut in state funds, which would most likely equate to more layoffs.

Quinn's budget calls for a $300 million-dollar reduction in income tax revenues to local governments.
"It would absolutely mean drastic cuts to our general fund budget and we're already down to the bone on many of our basic services."
Belvidere Mayor Fred Brereton was concerned by income tax revenue shared by municipal county and state governments.
He said "A twenty-three-dollar-and ten-cent per capita reduction means we lose nearly 600-thousand dollars from our community. This comes at a time the city is trying to develop a balanced budget for the next fiscal year."
" Last Monday we were looking at a balanced budget. This reduction will force us to re-evaluate out priorities to find another 500-thousand to cut from an already very lean budget," Brereton said.
Winnebago County Board Chairman Scott Christiansen says taking another 30% away is going to amount to $1.6 million dollar loss for the county. Some of this money is owed but comes late anyway. The county cut 20% out of its budget last year. Christiansen said the state needs to go back to the drawing board and rethink some of these cuts, otherwise more layoffs will occur when Quinn said his top priority is jobs.
"I think they need to start with their own house. The state of Illinois need to look at their budget and do what we have in local governments. We've made the cuts from our budgets. they need to do the same. Not stealing money away from local governments to help off-set their cuts," County Board Chair Scott Christiansen said.

Instead of just slaming the Governor come up with some options. Cutting state pay and the bennies is a very good option but not a cure. Also if you know sombody that is working for cash they are adding to the problem not the cure. We all have to pay our way so if they are not paying there tax then we are paying it for them and that I am getting realy tired of.
The Governor has truly lost all sense of the of the hardships the people are suffering thru during these tough times. He just doesn't realize that you can only get just so much from people who have nothing left to give. The overnor's answer to all financial problems has been to push for more taxes he just has no concept of just how bad we working class are hurting, and now he wants to some more pain on us. Since he has taken office everytime he has opened his mouth the words "more tax" have flowed from his mouth. I am a die hard democrate, but I wouldn't vote for him for dog catcher. If he really wants to cut some waste from state lets cut the wages politicans, including the governor's and there are the side benifits all the elected officials avail themselves of, and of course all at our expense.they all are ready, willing and able to take from us now let's see if they are willing to take from their own wallets. they are surely now over worked any way.
