The suspect who held police at bay for several hours Thursday is now in custody.
Residents of a Machesney Park neighborhood are back inside their homes after a voluntary evacuation.
What began as an early morning shooting investigation became a police standoff. Loves Park police tracked down a suspect named Andrew Drost to his home at 1119 Drexel Blvd. That's where officers tried to arrest Drost for the aggravated discharge of a firearm. Drost refused to exit his home and a police standoff ensued.
It was all over in just a few hours, but neighbors say they've never seen anything like it happen on their street.
Authorities have not confirmed whether they believe Drexel was the only suspect wanted in connection with this morning's shooting .
