Seiler Gets Probation for Faked Abduction

Audrey Seiler plead guilty to two misdemeanor charges in Dane County Circuit Court.

Seiler read a statement before she was sentenced Thursday. She attributes her faked abduction and disappearance to a severe state of depression that she says, caused her to act irrationally.

The 20-year-old Seiler disappeared from her off-campus apartment on March 27. Dozens of volunteers from Seiler's hometown of Rockford, Minnesota slogged through marshes and woods around campus looking for her. Law enforcement officers used planes, boats and dogs in their search. She turned up March 31 in an area marsh.

In an agreement with prosecutors, the 20-year-old former UW Madison student plead guilty to two counts of obstructing police.

Judge James Martin also set several conditions of her probation. They include reimbursing Madison police $250 a month during her three-year probation. That could increase to $400 a month if she graduates and get a job.
