Judge Throws Out Pieces of Wisconsin No Call List

Dane County Circuit Judge Maryann Sumi ruled that the agency that enforces the law overstepped its authority by increasing fines for violations and by giving citizens the ability to sue companies who break the rules.

Sumi upheld other provisions of the rules, including the fees the state charges businesses to obtain the list.

The No Call List took effect in January 2003. It prohibits telemarketers from calling numbers of those who sign up to be included on the list, although businesses can call current customers or people who give them permission to call.
