UIC Chancellor Plans to Retire

Sylvia Manning has been chancellor since 1999, and she says she'll miss working at the university, but she says that the time seemed right.

U of I board chairman Lawrence Eppley praised the 63-year-old Manning's focus on students and student achievement. During her tenure, UIC's six-year graduation rate reached its highest-ever point.

University President Joseph White plans a national search to find Manning's replacement.

Manning is a Yale graduate who came to Illinois-Chicago in 1994 from the University of Southern California.
