Gov. Rod Blagojevich is softening his demand to increased education funding by $400 million in the Illinois state budget.
A Blagojevich spokesperson acknowledged the governor might consider lowering his education proposal by $50 million if the other negotiators also agree to make compromises.
The governor and four legislative leaders inched closer to a resolution on the state budget during talks Friday. The governor called it a breakthrough negotiation session.
More talks are planned for Monday in Springfield.
