US Magazine Circulation Falls Nine Percent at Newsstands
People are spending less money for magazines at newsstands.

NEW YORK (AP) -- The Audit Bureau of Circulations says single-copy sales at newsstands and other retail outlets fell more than 9 percent in the second half of 2009.
On the upside, the drop wasn't as severe as the first half of the year, when publishers saw a 12 percent decline.
Newsstand sales are important because publishers charge more per copy than they do for subscriptions. Paid subscriptions, meanwhile, fell by 1.1 percent in the second half.
People magazine, the No. 2 magazine behind Cosmopolitan, saw newsstand sales drop 10 percent.
Good Housekeeping's total circulation was roughly flat, but its newsstand sales sank more than 30 percent.

I think that the sales would go up with these magazines if they include whats going on in the world. Being in a recession people are spending less on fashion and the clothes or perfumes advertised are way out of peoples budgets now. Maybe if they were to add into their magazine topics about Haiti and things like teens for jeans and different things people can do to help out. Or how people can shop for less, like advertise where people can get the best deals (not how you can get a $200 pair of jeans for $100 that's unrealistic in these hard times) on clothes maybe even put coupons in there. I think that, that will pull sales up. One more idea is to have stories on regular people and their lives being affected by this recession. Just thought I would add my input on what people are REALLY looking to read.
If they told us the truth about 9/11 or the Anthrax attacks, I might be more likely to buy them. But all they do is regurgitate drivel and avoid any important topics that are used as a way to change our way of life and take away our rights. Tell the truth. People want to know it.
