ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) -- An attorney for a Rockford man who spent 13 years in prison before his murder conviction was thrown out says he has asked for a pardon.
Attorney Karen Daniel says a petition was filed last month on behalf of Alan Beaman. She says the petition asks Gov. Pat Quinn for clemency and a pardon based on innocence. The Illinois Prisoner Review Board is to hear arguments on the petition in April.
The 37-year-old Beaman was convicted in 1995 and sentenced to 50 years in prison in the death of Illinois State University student Jennifer Lockmiller, his ex-girlfriend. The state Supreme Court threw out the conviction in 2008.
Beaman also has filed suit against investigators and prosecutors, saying they disregarded evidence that could have cleared him.
