Educators Seek Testing Data from 175 Schools

The State Board of Education released lists showing 665 schools statewide are struggling. Their students did not do well enough on standardized tests in spring 2003 to meet the federal government's requirement for "adequate yearly progress."

But the number is much lower than in December. State officials found errors in the way hundreds of schools reported demographics and allowed them to review what they submitted.

State board spokeswoman Karen Craven says the 175 schools never sent in the data to begin with and have not for the past six months despite continual urging by the agency.

Craven says the agency will not release the schools' names.
