Authorities in Carroll County say one man was killed and another was critically injured in plane crash. Just after 8 p.m. Saturday night an ultra light plane crashed into a cornfield just north of the town of Lanark.

The Carroll County sheriff's office said the plane took off from a private airstrip just outside the Lake Carroll recreation development and went down in a nearby cornfield. The men flying in the ultra light were identified as 57-year-old William Barr Junior of Elgin and 64-year-old John Asta of Apple Valley.

Barr was pronounced dead at the scene, while Asta was flown by helicopter to St. Anthony's hospital in Rockford. He was in critical condition as of Sunday morning.
