May Calls Purchase of Marshall Field's Chain 'A Great Fit'

Gene Kahn, chairman and chief executive of St. Louis-based May, calls the purchase of the Marshall Field's stores 'a great fit.'

The move strengthens May's presence in the Midwest, giving it 62 new stores, mostly in the Chicago, Detroit and Minneapolis-St. Paul areas.

May said it will keep the Marshall Field's name and run it as a stand-alone division.

Kahn calls adding the Marshall Field's name to the May chain a great opportunity to enhance May's upscale persona.
