Two stateline-area mayors are in Washington taking part in one of the nation's largest meetings.
Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey and Freeport Mayor George Gaulrapp are there for the U.S Conference of Mayors. They met with U.S. Senator Dick Durbin about several issues such as economic development opportunities and coming up with more comprehensive transit routes. President Obama also discussed job creation with the large crowd.
Mayor Morrissey will be one of four mayors to speak at a forum Friday about creating new approaches to service delivery while balancing the budget during tough economic times. He'll then return to Rockford late Friday night. This marks the 78th year that these mayoral meetings have taken place.
