Sales Tax Legislation

Both the Senate and now the House have voted to override the Governor's veto. This will allow Rockford to collect 8 million dollars in sales tax revenue for road construction projects this summer. Collection could begin as early as Monday. We will have more information on the 23 News at Noon, 5, 6, and 10.

We are now going to have to start paying the sales tax hike six months early, What about the city stickers we all had to buy? The city stickers were supposed to be a thing of the past next year when the tax went into effect. So what about all of us that had to buy them?

I really do appreciate the need for this money to repair roads, but when people vote their approval for a new tax that is to start in 2008, the house and senate have absolutely no business in allowing the city to start imposing it earlier. The city should be grateful to it's citizens and follow their wishes. It is a rare occasion that this governor is the onlt one to make a wise decision.
