There's a new chain of command at an anti violence group here in Rockford. Cease Fire announced today that Willie Ashford is it's new director. Ashford is from Rockford and currently lives in Loves Park. He served 12 years in the Rockford Police Department and is in the process of finishing up his doctorate at Northern Illinois University.
He says he wants violence to be considered a public health issue and hopes Ceasefire can keep us from becoming complacent about crime.
Outgoing leader Ralph Hawthorne is resigning on Saturday and moving to Atlanta with his family.
