Two Illinois nut distributors announced voluntary recalls of products containing raw whole almonds because of possible salmonella contamination.
Anton-Argires is recalling packages of its Argires brand tropical mixed nuts. The Alsip-based company says they come in 16-ounce plastic tubs or in 25-pound bulk cases.
Chicago-based Superior Nut and Candy is also conducting a recall of various almond-containing products. They were packaged under the following brand names, Superior Nut & Candy, Jake's Trading Company, Imperial Foods and Warner Candies.
Superior distributes nut products in Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri and Indiana. The move follows recalls across the country since mid-may of raw almonds grown by paramount farms of Los Angeles.
