Major Airlines Are Backing Out of O'Hare Project

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says he doesn't know how long a planned renovation of passenger terminals and aircraft gates at O'Hare International Airport will be delayed.

Daley says city officials are negotiating with United Airlines and American Airlines, which now say they no longer can afford to invest in the $3.6 billion World Gateway Project.

Daley says new terminals eventually will be needed at O'Hare.

Officials from both airlines say they are ending their involvement in the project for the foreseeable future.
