Rockford Man With Hit List Being Released

A judge has ordered the release of a 20-year-old Rockford man who authorities say kept a hit list of politicians and celebrities.

The judge had denied Michael Breit's release last month, but he reversed his decision Monday after hearing testimony from Breit's family.

Breit has been charged with one count of illegally receiving explosive material to make explosive devices and one count of receiving an explosive with the intent to use it to harm or injure a person or damage property.

Authorities say Breit had a variety of guns and a sword in his home when he was arrested last month. They also allegedly found several pounds of black powder and the components needed to build pipe bombs.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Iasparro says he will appeal the judge's decision. Breit's release is scheduled for later Tuesday.
