The Rockford City Council takes a big step in the effort to bring riverboat gambling to town.
During Monday night’s meeting the City Council gave a yes vote to a riverboat gambling resolution. Now, the future of a riverboat casino in Rockford lies in the hands of the Illinois General Assembly.
Should the senate and house approve, the final decision to extend a gaming license to the city will come from Gov. Blagojevich.
Despite the yes vote, debate still exists among city leaders regarding potential benefits and downfalls of a casino in Rockford.
