Congress Passes One Spending Bill

$500,000 is slated to be spent turning the corner at West State Street and Springfield Avenue into a senior living facility, immediate care center, private ambulance service and fire training facility. The bill is also expected to fund $300,000 in technology upgrades to Rockford College. This money is a fraction of the $126 million awarded to Illinois. Federally, $650 billion will be paid to Medicare and Medicaid.
"In the short term, we're going to need to keep spending because we've got to make sure that we get this economy headed in the right direction," says Senator Mark Warner of Virginia.
President Obama now must sign off on the bill. This is different from the spending package congress votes on next week, geared towards encouraging job growth.
