Don Carter Lanes Gets Facelift
This past year has been tough on many local businesses. In fact it's become fairly common to see empty storefronts in Rockford. But despite these hardships the owners of a business on the Miracle Mile are hoping to pull off a miracle of their own.

23 News Reporter Chris Norman tells us if their investments have landed a strike or gutterball.
"Usually try to come here a couple times a week, I've always enjoyed the place and I'm excited about the changes they're trying to make," said Mike Moe, a regular customer.
It's not just the regulars who are raving about Don Carter Lanes' new look. Manager Jason Heiden says a lot of new faces are coming by to check out recent changes made to the lanes.
"The building was old we needed something to brighten up the area, a lot of people are curious, what's going on down there whats that going to be, I think it's a risk but it will pay off in the end," Heiden said.
The entire face of the building has changed. It's got a more modern feel and the parking lot is more easily accessible. There's a new koi pond out front, with plans to build a two story beer garden above it. Inside, flat screen tv's line the walls.
"I actually think it needed a change, the outside of the building is really nice, the colors they are picking are bringing a lot of positive things to the community," said Eboney Hunter.
Heiden says a lot of recent success comes from a new partnership with Trackside, which will move its off-track-betting business from down the road into Don Carter Lanes.
"A lot of their customers are coming by to say hey, what's it going to be like when it is here, so I thinks it's going to be a win-win for both of us," Heiden said.
The OTB is moving into the section of Don Carter lanes where the Pro Shop used to be. Some of folks I spoke with today were a little upset the shop wasn't open. Heiden says there is no need to worry because a new pro-shop is being added to the east side of the building.
Trackside plans to make the move at the end of the month. Until then, their location a little further down East State will stay open.
