60 Year Old Has Twins

HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) -- A 60-year-old New Jersey woman who had twin boys this week says she did it to show women that they have choices.

Frieda Birnbaum tells N-B-C's "Today" show that it's "'really basically about women and empowerment."

She underwent in-vitro fertilization last year at a South African clinic that specializes in older women. She gave birth by Caesarean section Tuesday.

She's a psychologist. Her husband is an attorney. They've been married 38 years and have three other children -- sons ages 33 and six, and a daughter who's 29. Birnbaum's husband said it was his idea for his wife to become pregnant instead of adopting.

Her daughter has said she worries about her mother caring for the children when they're in their teens and she's in her late 70s.
