SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- State transportation officials are opening up the roads for Memorial Day weekend.
The Illinois Department of Transportation says they'll be suspending roadwork where possible to make for a smoother drive over the holiday weekend.
In the Chicago area, all lanes on the Edens, Eisenhower, Kennedy and Stevenson expressways will be open, along with interstates 80 and 57.
But work will continue in some construction zones throughout the state. Transportation officials encourage drivers to check I-DOT's Web site for specific information about construction zones.
The changes in construction zones will be in effect from three p-m tomorrow through midnight on Monday.
