The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says that's the third consecutive month of decline.
Last month, 51 people were killed. That's 30 percent fewer than the 73 deaths in April last year. In March, 52 people died in traffic accidents, and the number in February was 37.
Transportation officials say the third month of fewer deaths prompted cautious optimism, after fatalities hit a 22-year high last year.
