The Winnebago County parents found guilty of leaving their children home alone while they went to Mari Gras have learned their fate.
Donna and Xavier Lewis have been sentenced to six months is jail and two years probation.
The couple left their five children at home for more than a week in March of 2000 to celebrate Mari Gras in New Orleans.
In June, a jury found the couple guilty of abandoning their children.
Assistant states attorney, Wendy Larsen says today's sentencing will help send a message to other parents to think twice before leaving their children unattended.
