A threat was made, the police were called in, and three Winnebago High School students have been arrested. Students were sent home with letters Tuesday so their parents could be alerted to the situation.
A lot of rumors have circulated about the threats, but it is important to start with what is confirmed.
Three students have been arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. The arrests were a result of an ongoing investigation by the Village of Winnebago Police Department. That investigation started Monday morning at about 10 a.m. after the school district called the police because students were overheard making threats to other students.
Tuesday afternoon every student was told to read a release explaining the incident. Several of those students told 23 News their teachers had nothing to add as they passed out the statement.
The investigation is still underway, so both the school district and the police department are being tight lipped.
23 News has also gotten several tips from students and family members that a hit list may have been made. Neither the school district nor the police department has confirmed this.
