The deer hunting whittled the herd's population by one-third.
The county says the eradication program was necessary because the herd was killing trees in county forest preserves by stripping bark.
Officials estimate the county has 295 deer per square mile versus the state's recommendation of 25 per square mile.
About 14,000 venison from the hunting were processed and donated to local food pantries.
