State Launches Campaign to Promote Use of Sex Offender Registry

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says crimes can be prevented if more people make themselves aware of where convicted sex offenders live in their communities.

As part of the campaign announced Thursday, posters will be put up in secretary of state's offices, libraries and gas stations across Illinois.

Madigan says the sex offender website got 900,000 hits last year, but that only represents a small percentage of Illinois households.
