WASHINGTON (AP) -- Democrat Barack Obama rebuked Republican White House rival Rudy Giuliani today for suggesting the country could face another major terrorist attack if a Democrat is elected in 2008.
The Illinois senator says Giuliani shouldn't turn the threat that faces the United States into "the punchline of another political attack."
He says Americans are united in fighting terrorism and reject questioning the patriotism of people who question failed policies.
Yesterday in New Hampshire, Giuliani said if a Democrat is elected it means, "We're going to wave the white flag there." He says a Republican win would signal the country will remain on the offensive in the war against terrorists.
Giuliani was mayor of New York when the World Trade Center was attacked on nine-eleven.
