Ten healthcare workers at a Freeport nursing center will be out of a job later this week due to escalating financial problems.
Administrators at the Stephenson County Nursing Center say they're struggling with outdated medicaid reimbursements and fewer patients and because of those factors, ten people will be out of job this Thursday.
They include secretaries, bedmakers and an activity coordinator. Nurses won't lose their jobs but will have to cut back on one shift every two weeks.
As for the center's future, more cuts are likely. It's unclear what exactly those cuts would be but the center's goal is to keep the cuts away from patient care.
